The city located on the river Mures was first dated in 1323. With a history that stretches across the ages, with proven archaeological sites from the Neolithic, the Bronze and Metal Ages, Targu Mures became a modern town in the second half of the 19th century, along with the expansion of the railway line. The main attraction of the city can be found in the downtown square: the Culture Palace, an impressive early 20th century building housing some of the local museums. On the short landmark list we can find the Apollo Palace, the St. Michael Wooden Orthodox Church or the Targu Mures Fortress, erected by Prince Stefan Bathory in 1492.
